Contractors should not pre-finance projects

Agona Nyakrom, Oct 21, GNA – The Agona District Coordinating Director (DCD), Mr G. B. L. Siilo, has called on the District Assembly to stop asking contractors to pre-finance projects.

He said the policy, which was adopted by the previous government, has led to the abandoning of many projects creating problems for district assemblies.

Mr Siilo said this when a team of District Coordinating Directors visited Agona Nyakrom to inspect a 75 million-cedi abandoned market project started in 1996.

The 25 DCDs are attending a two-week management course at Aburi in the Eastern Region organised by the European Union and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

He urged assemblies not to award contracts to satisfy politicians or personalities.

“District assemblies should look for adequate funds before awarding contracts so that contractors who would be working on the projects can be paid”.

Mr Siilo suggested to assemblies to reactivate abandoned projects.
