UENR to benefit from Exim-Bank loan facility

The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) is to benefit from a Chinese Exim-Bank loan facility contracted by the government to fund the establishment of the University of Sustainable Development in the Eastern Region.

President John Dramani Mahama who broke the news did not say how much it was going to receive but said the money would go into the expansion of the UERN’s infrastructure.

He was addressing the maiden congregation of the university that saw 200 students graduated with Bachelor of Science (BSc) degrees in Natural Resources, Renewable Energy Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The university, inaugurated in year 2012, has a core mandate to provide higher education, disseminate knowledge and undertake research related to energy and natural resources.

It presently runs 19 undergraduate programmes in four schools – School of Natural Resources, School of Engineering, School of Science and School of Agriculture and Technology.

President Mahama said the Exim-Bank facility would boost the finances of the institution for expansion of its physical infrastructure.

Professor John Sefa Kwadwo Ayim, a former Vice-Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), who chairs the University’ Governing Council, appealed for increased government funding to enable it to deliver on its mandate.

He encouraged the graduating students to conduct themselves well by making sure that the core values of the institution reflected on everything they did.
