Agric Ministry sets up Food Safety Committee

Accra, Oct. 21, GNA – The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) on Tuesday announced setting up a Food Safety Committee as part of measures to check the sale of unwholesome food, vegetables and meat to the public in the Greater Accra Region.

Various ministries, agencies and departments, including the Tourist Board, the Ghana Police Service and the Food and Drugs Board and the Ghana News Agency are serving on the committee, which would begin its work early next year.

The committee, working in conjunction with MOFA, would assist in the introduction of indelible ink for the stamping of meat, improve sanitation at slaughtering facilities and ensure that 60 per cent of meat sold in the region are inspected and are wholesome. It is yet to meet and map out its strategy of operation.
