IEA debates don’t decide outcome of elections – Anyidoho

The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says that the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) did not show respect to the party and its structures hence their decision not to participate in this year’s IEA evening encounter.

Speaking on Atinka FM AM Drive with Kaakyire Ofori Ayim Wednesday , Koku Anyidoho stated that the IEA, which has been organizing presidential debates prior to general elections did not accord the party the needed respect. He added that IEA debates are not enshrined in the constitution and moreover Ghanaian voters are not swayed by the outcome of IEA debates.

He added that the IEA took their own decisions and stressed on the fact that the organization initially decided to hold the debate for only the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) but did not see the need to officially write to the party requesting for their presence at the IEA debate.

According to Koku Anyidoho, the NDC is still in deliberations with the Ghana Broadcasting Cooperation (GBC) which will also organize a political debate, but could not assure Ghanaians if they would participate or not.
