IEA debate: I’m disappointed in Mahama – PNC leader

President John Mahama’s decision to snub the upcoming presidential debate ahead of the 2016 elections has angered one of his contenders Dr Edward Mahama.

The flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC) said he is “disappointed” in the incumbent president because “he was supposed to have accounted” to the people.

According to the Gynaecologist, Mahama’s absence will take the shine out of the Institute of Economic Affairs-sponsored debate because Ghanaians have been longing for that.

“I’m disappointed,” the five-time presidential candidate of the Nkrumahist party told Bola Ray on personality profile show Starr Chat. “Yes, because he is the one to come and account. If he refuses, then Ghanaians will judge. In 2012 he was there and how come now he is not going to come.”

Dr Mahama stressed: “I’m disappointed. He’s the one I want to debate. It is his job I’m coming after not Nana [Addo].”

The 71-year-old who is eyeing the presidency for the fifth time emphasised that he was not “tired” because the “problems I have seen and talking about are getting worse.”
