Fathers must play role to minimise abuse – Apostle Onyinah

Apostle Dr Opoku Onyinah, the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, has advised fathers to play their roles well to minimise child abuse in the society.

He said the concept of fatherhood was important in the Bible because God, being a Father, created man in His own image and, therefore, placed specific roles and responsibilities in his care to manage the family effectively.

Apostle Opoku Onyinah gave the advice in a message to the church during this year’s Father’s Day celebration on Sunday.

He said: “Genuine fatherhood is a concept that is being lost in our society today,” adding that; “I consider most of the crimes and catastrophes that are going on in the world today as the lack of guidance by parents, especially the fathers.”

Apostle Opoku Onyinah said much as the Bible instructs children to obey their fathers, so does it teach fathers not to provoke their children to anger, but must bring them up through discipline and instruction of the Lord.

He said the best legacy a father could bequeath to the child was to teach the child the word of God, give him or her good education and provide for the family to ensure the wellbeing of each member.

He advised children to take good care of their fathers when they are old for God to shower His blessings on them.
