A former constituency chairman of the New Patriotic Party is to contest the party’s candidate for Ablekuma West, Ursurla Owusu Ekuful, as an independent candidate in the November 7 parliamentary election.
Posters announcing Theophilus Ayerkwei Tetteh’s intention to contest the parliamentary election as an independent candidate has surfaced in the constituency.
Mr Tetteh on the eve of the party’s April 9 primary, pulled out leaving Mrs Ekuful and Roni Nicol in the race, which the former won with 876 votes. His withdrawal from the primary stemmed from a protracted disagreement over the constituency’s voters’ register.
The issue caused 13executives at the Ablekuma West constituency to resign from the NPP on April 8, after the party failed to address the issues which they deemed to favour Ekuful.
Though he announced he was going to contest the constituency election as an independent candidate, many thought he would not go ahead with that decision, especially so when Mrs Ekuful upon her election said she would rally all aggrieved people in the constituency behind the party.
But a tour of the constituency by Onua FM revealed Mr Tetteh is bent on contesting the election as an independent candidate. Posters and billboards of various form and sizes of him as an independent candidate have been erected within the constituency. Posters, billboards with the tag: “Help me and I will help you” have been mounted on major streets at Dansoman, Sukura, Sakaman, Hansonic and other areas in the constituency. The posters and signboards have blue, white and red colours similar to that of the NPP.
