Workshop on water preserversion opened

Breman-Asikuma, (C/R) Oct. 18, GNA- The government has organised a day’s workshop for 60 stakeholders from three districts in the Central Region on the preservation of good drinking water and sound environmental sanitation at Breman-Asikuma.

The districts were Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa and Mfantseman.

Closing the workshop, Mr Samson K Anfako, District Chief executive for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa announced that the government in collaboration with the European Union has initiated the programme to provide potable water to 40 communities in the Central and Western regions, which controls a total population of 190,000 inhabitants each. He said under the programme, wells and pipe-borne water would be provided to the beneficiary communities.

He assured Ghanaians that the government would do everything its capability to make life better for people in deprived communities. Mr Anfako therefore, urged Ghanaians to exercise restraint and work hard to attain national goals.

He said water ensures the sustenance on life and should be accorded with all the needed protection and improvement to avoid water-borne diseases.

He announced that the beneficiary communities would be required to contribute five per cent of the total cost of the project. The DCE advised participants to mobilise the people when they go back to their respective stations and sensitised them on subjects they were taught at the workshop.

Ms Charlotte Engman-Manu, Water and Sanitation Systems Coordinator and Mr Francis K Awindaogo, Central Regional Director of Community Water and Sanitation Agency, who were resource persons at the workshop, advised the beneficiary districts to take advantage of the programme to improve their water systems.
