Dumsor looms as Aboadze plant shuts down

Power providers have intensified the shedding of load as thermal plants in Aboadze are shutdown.

The plants have been shut down due to limited supply of Lean Gas from the Ghana National Gas Company over the past two days.

Starr News has learnt that the situation has created a deficit of over 400 megawatts.

Power providers are reportedly closely monitoring the situation to switch the dual plants to light crude oil to improve power supply.

Deputy Power Minister John Jinapor told Starr News engineers are working around the clock to fix the challenge at Aboadze.

“For about two days now, we have had a dramatic reduction in the supply of gas to the Aboadze enclave. The Aboadze plant itself has a problem, I think it has to do with the sensor.

“Fortunately, we have been in touch with them and they have assured that within a couple of days, they will resolve that challenge so we are monitoring closely.

“Normally, when you have shortage of gas, you try to switch the dual fuel plant to light crude oil but you have to monitor and be certain before you begin the process of switching,” he said.
