An Accra Human Rights court has reviewed its initial order directing the State to refund some $400,000 it confiscated from a Nigerien citizen upon suspicion of fraud.
The court presided over by Justice Anthony Yeboah reviewed its order Tuesday after the EOCO indicated it was appealing the ruling.
Meanwhile, the Niger embassy in Ghana has reportedly written to the Foreign Affairs ministry and copied the lawyer of the applicant expressing their displeasure at the conduct of the State concerning their citizen and his funds.
Lawyer for the accused, Afenyo Markins, has indicated that he will file a writ of certiorari at the Supreme Court to quash the ruling of the high court to stay the execution.
The suspect Halidu Moro was first arrested and the money confiscated upon arrival at the Kotoka International Airport in 2014.
Moro subsequently filed a suit challenging the confiscation of his money at the Human Rights Court. His application was granted with the court ordering the state to release his money.
