More than half of the almost 25,000 prospective applicants to be enlisted into the Ghana Police Service (GPS) do not qualify to be in the Service, the Public Affairs Director, Superintendent Cephas Arthur has revealed.
According to him, most of the applicants did not read the requirements for the enlistment while others bought the forms with no intention of being enlisted. Supt. Cephas Arthur made the revelation on Onua FM’s ‘Yen Sempa’, hosted by Kwame Karikari.
Police Service, has since 2012 not recruited personnel but more than half of the applicants across the nation do not meet the standards. Supt Arthur said some of the applicants bought the forms in trust of God while others just decided to try their luck by purchasing the scratch card of GHS100 non-refundable.
He further denied reports that National Service personnel engaged under the Urban Traffic Module would be given preferential treatment although they have acquired the basic skills in policing.
He said the service personnel were taken through maintenance of lives, apprehension, traffic control and other basic skills in policing but that does not qualify them to be enlisted into the police. He explained that they must go through the enlistment processes to be able to join the service.
