SDA Members Urged To Immunize Children

Techiman (Brong Ahafo), 10 Nov.,

An official of the National Mobilisation Programme (NMP) has deplored the stand of some members of the local Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) church for refusing to send their children for immunization last Saturday, November eight because of their religious beliefs. Mr. Kofi Adu Bediako, the Techiman District Liaison Officer of the NMP, made the criticism at a meeting of the Techiman Queenmothers’ Association at Techiman yesterday. Mr. Bediako said for sometime now some members of the SDA church have not been taking part in governmental programmes that are scheduled for Saturdays because of their religious beliefs to keep the Sabbath Day Holy. He quoted the Bible to indicate that it would be a sin for anybody to refuse to prevent the deformity of his or her child with the pretext of observing the Sabbath when the means to do so is available and free of charge. Nana Ama Serwaa, Brong Ahafo regional organiser of the association, asked queenmothers to help spread the message on the need to save the environment from degradation. Nana Serwaa who is also the Kurontihemaa of Duayaw-Nkwanta Traditional area, spoke of the approaching harmattan season and asked her colleagues to step up education in their communities for them to refrain from setting bushfires.
