The Ghana Health Service has appealed to striking Community Health Nurses to go back to work as it makes efforts to address their grievances.
Over 13,000 nurses of the CHNAG declared a nationwide indefinite strike, earlier in the week over concerns on their certificates.
They’re fighting for a change in their job description from nurse assistants – prevention to community Health nurses.
The Nurses earlier contended that their strike will continue unabated until officials address their grievances.
But the Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Ebenezer Appiah Denkyira told Accra-based Citi FM that while efforts are being made to resolve the outstanding issues brought to the table by the striking nurses, there is also the need that the nurses return to work.
“…We don’t arrange the curriculum; we employ Community Health Nurses and we pay them as such-Is the regulator, the one who design the programme for their training that has classified their training into the nurse Assistants. And so we’re just assuring them that that one is being worked on and series of meetings have been held on that and the Ministry is doing that but it will take some time…So far s the employer is concerned we’re are keeping that name, and so far as the employer is concerned we allow room to upgrade-and they’re being addressed so they should come,” Dr. Appiah Denkyira said.
