Need to strengthen APU-Speaker

Accra, Oct. 15, GNA – The Speaker of Parliament, Mr Peter Ala-Adjetey, on Wednesday observed that there was the need to strengthen the African Parliamentary Union (APU) in order to make it a stronger and more formidable body.

He said this could be done by drawing all countries under the APU together and ensuring that they each contributed their quota to the Union.

Mr Ala-Adjetey made these observations when he spoke to newsmen at the Kotoka International Airport upon his return from the Inter Parliamentary Union Conference in Geneva that took place from 1st to 3rd October and the 4th Assembly of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association in Bangladesh-Dhaka from 4th-12th October.

The Speaker said the CPA Conference covered a wide range of issues including the need for fairness in world trade and the negative effects of certain cultural practices on human rights.

The 43rd session of the Executive Committee and the 26th conference of the APU opens in Accra on Friday.
