MPs must pay much attention to their health – Barton-Odro

First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ebo Barton-Odro, has implored Members of Parliament to take issues relating to their health seriously as they are usually over-burdened by too much workload in the House .

The Cape Coast North MP lamented about deaths among MPs in recent times and entreated law makers to take issues concerning their health with all seriousness. At least four MPs have died in the last four months. He maintained that the leaders of the House are making frantic efforts to provide special medical care for MPs. This, he said will in a way secure the future of the MPs to some extent.

The Deputy Speaker made the declaration when family members of the late Abetifi MP, Peter Wiafe Peprah called on him Wednesday to inform the leadership of Parliament about the funeral arrangements for the late legislator.

Mr. Barton-Odro hosted the delegation in his lounge on behalf of the Speaker, Edward Doe Adzaho.

“Parliament has lost a great and hardworking man; a man who worked hard to make sure that parliament get results. He prefers to work from behind the scenes. We will miss him so much yet we take consolation in the fact that it is God who gives and takes life. We pray that we get a replacement in no time.”

Leader of the delegation, Okyeame Tenkorang Acheampong, said the demise of the Peter Wiafe came as a great shock to them and most of them are yet to recover from it.

He opined that, subject to the blessings of parliament, the family has fixed 22nd and 23rd of July as dates for the funeral.
