Kunkum Bhagya negatively affecting education – Minister

Alex Kyeremeh, Deputy Minister of Education, believes that the popular telenovela, Kumkum Bhagya is dragging students away from their studies.

He explained that if parents don’t take consideration of the negative effects of the programme, it would provide great detriment to Takyiman North, where he made these statements. However, he made it clear that, there are some good teachings from the programme but it’s not healthy for all of us at the same time.

Students are distracted from their books, adults as well from performing some duties in life. Adults leaving evangelism duty to watch the telenovela, some leaving choir practice and whatnot were a few instances he gave where the TV show was interrupting with social duties of adults, which in turn affects Takyiman North and the society at large. He even called the popular telenovela “Bonsam Bhagya”, meaning Satan Bhagya.

BECE is forth coming and he believes that if proper measures are not taken by parents and guardians and the students themselves, there would be portrayal of appalling results for Takyiman North.

“Watching Kumkum Bhagya wouldn’t pay you at the end of the month, it wouldn’t provide you with certificate, neither would it provide jobs…” he told the people of Takyiman North as he distributed educational materials to some schools in the community.
