Pratt disagrees with ECG workers on billing software

Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has dared the Unionised Workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to proceed with their strike action.

Unionised Workers of ECG issued a 7-day ultimatum to the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) to withdraw its directive for the suspension of the electricity billing software.

The PURC directed the ECG to suspend the software because it has led to high electricity bills.

The workers noted that the directive by the PURC has aggravated their situation because the customers have been subjecting them to assault.

General Secretary of the Public Utility Workers Union Bondzie Quaye disclosed in a press conference on Monday that the workers will embark on a massive strike.

Speaking on ‘Kokrokoo’ on Peace FM, Kwesi Pratt Jnr. disagreed with the justifications given by the ECG for the billing software.

According to him, the software has created lots of problems for customers.

Mr. Pratt stated that the astronomical bills are as a result of the software and so, believed the PURC directive is appropriate.

“I don’t agree with them. They don’t have a good case at all. There is a problem with the software,” he said.

He, therefore, told sit-in host Nana Yaw Kesse that the Unionised Workers should go ahead with their massive strike.
