Boy, 13, drowns in Chereponi river

A 13-year-old boy, Razaq Amadu, has drowned in a river at Chereponi in the Northern region in the early hours of Saturday.

The deceased met his untimely death when he went to the riverside with his friends to fish, according to a distressed relative.

Madam Rabi Ibrahim told Starr News Amadu who lived with both parents engages in fishing weekends. According to her, he returned to the river after a successful catch Saturday but slipped and fell in the river leading to his demise.

Ibrahim said residents living around the river heard screams and quickly a search party was organized to retrieve the body.

The deceased has since been buried in accordance with Islamic tradition while the police is yet to be informed.
