Police hunts for 28-year-old taxi driver

The Winneba police are seriously looking for a 28-year-old taxi driver who allegedly led a gang of thieves to break into the office of Awutu Effutu Senya Teachers’ Co-Operative Credit Union at Town Hall in an attempt to steal money.

Ainoo Augustine Kofi, driver of a Daewoo cab with registration number GS 3698-11, together with his accomplices, abandoned the vehicle and bolted when an alarm was raised by a resident.

For fear of being chased and caught, the suspects escaped in several directions, leaving the vehicle at the scene.

The vehicle has since been towed to the Winneba district police station.

Superintendent Godfrey Tetteh, Commander in-charge of the Winneba District police station, told DAILY GUIDE the incident occurred around May 26, 2016 at about 3am.

The thieves allegedly broke into the office and pulled outside the metal safe kept in the office of the manager, but they were spotted by someone who raised an alarm.

He said preliminary investigations indicated that Ainoo Augustine was part of the gang that attempted to steal from the Credit Union office.

He appealed to the public to assist in apprehending Augustine to assist in investigation
