June 3 disaster memorial service in pictures

A memorial service has been held to honour victims of the June 3 disaster in Accra.

The service which was held at Rev. Ernest Bruce Memorial Methodist Church at Adabraka attracted family members of the victims, government officials, opinion leaders, the clergy and some well-wishers to commemorate the day.

The Chief Executive of Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije who spoke at the service said authorities have learnt great lessons after the disaster and have taken actions to ensure that such a tragedy does not reoccur.

Mr Vanderpuije added that government was also giving support to 15 individuals who were severely injured and disfigured by the fire.

President John Mahama who was at the one year anniversary event tweeted that “May the souls of those who departed on June 3, 2015 rest in perfect peace. We’ll continue to correct dev’ts that led to the disaster.”

This follows many other consoling comments from sympathizers who have taken to social media and other platforms to send their warmth to the survivors and families of victims.
