Upper East Launches Polio Immunuzation Day

Bongo-Soe (Upper East), Nov. 7 The national immunization day campaign on eradication of polio in the Upper East Region has been launched at Bongo-Soe with a call on health authorities to prevent any shortage of vaccines during the exercise. Making the call, Mr Donald Adabre, Upper East Regional Minister, said ”Vaccines and other drugs must be administered in a manner most effective to prevent transmission of germs.” He asked them to intensify their education to create awareness among the people about diseases such as poliomyelitis and cerebro spinal meningitis which can easily be prevented through vaccination. On the choice of Bongo-Soe as the launching site, Mr Adabre said ”we should endeavour to reach the most remote areas where our services are most needed in combating the disease.” Dr Erasmus Agongo, regional director of health services said ”last year, the region fell below the national targeted coverage of 95 per cent by scoring 84 per cent during the first and second rounds.”
