Principal advocates regular release of grants

Alhaji Dr Sulemana Iddrisu, Principal of Tamale College of Education (TACE), has appealed to the government to regularly release feeding grants of teacher trainees to enhance academic exercise.

He said the delay, had become a source of stress for trainees and this does not augur well for sound academic exercise.

Dr Iddrisu made the appeal during the fourth congregation of TACE in Tamale, where 696 newly-trained teachers graduated with diplomas in basic education.

For the second consecutive year, a graduating student of TACE received the University of Cape Coast Excellence Award, Northern Zone, while the newly-instituted TACE Principal’s Excellence Award was awarded to four students of the college.

Dr Iddrisu appealed to the government to help to improve the infrastructure situation of the TACE.

He said TACE has had to reject qualified applicants for lack of adequate infrastructure facilities and human resource.

He commended government for converting Colleges of Education into tertiary institutions as well as revising their salary structure to reflect their new status as tertiary institutions.

Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, Minister of Education, whose speech was read on her behalf, assured of government’s commitment to improve infrastructure facilities at Colleges of Education, citing some ongoing projects across the country.

Mr Abdallah Abubakari, Northern Regional Minister, whose speech was read on his behalf, said government places premium on teacher education and would continue to invest in education to promote social and economic progress of the country.

Alhaji Professor Seidu Peligah, Chairman of the Governing Council of TACE advised the newly-trained teachers to make a difference in their fields of work and the nation as a whole.

They should also avoid acts that are not in the best interest of the country.
