Learn from Ouattara while in Ivory Coast – NPP to Mahama

The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged President John Mahama to seize the opportunity of his official visit to Ivory Coast, to learn from that country’s President, Alhassani Quattara how within four years he’s been able to develop his country to an appreciable level.

President Mahama, his wife and a high powered government delegation are in Ivory Coast during which the Ghanaian leader will be decorated with Ivory Coast’s highest national award.

A statement from the Flagstaff House said: “The President will also receive the key to Abidjan and an honorary citizenship of Côte D’Ivoire.”

The Flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo Addo has in recent times been pitching Ghana’s economic performance against its welling performing neibhour, Ivory Coast urging the Mahama led government to lean from that country.

He has said Ghana’s once buoyant economy, especially, the agricultural sector, has seen a sharp decline to the extent that it now imports plantain from neighbouring La Cote d’Ivoire.

Acting Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu in an interview with Kwaku Owusu Adjei on Si Me So on Kasapa 102.5 FM, said President Mahama’s visit should not be all about the niceties in diplomacy but must serve as a platform for him to understudy his Ivorian colleagues whose sterling performance in office has worn the admiration of many non-Ivorians.

“He should find out from Quattara if he doled out state funds to his party members like was given to Woyome. It is fine that he’s being given an award, it is an honour done Ghana. But the country that is awarding him has been able to develop appreciably within about four years. He should ask Quattara how he made that possible for his country, I know he’ll help President Mahama, if he seeks for his support. In his country, Quattara did not give out state monies to companies such as RLG’s and the Zoomlion’s who take state monies but fail to do the work expected of them. He should take the opportunity to learn from the Ivorian President.”
