ECG staff in Kade chased with machetes and clubs

Some angry youth at Kade in the Kwaebibirim District of the Eastern region on Wednesday chased out workers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) with machetes and clubs for attempting to disconnect them.

Residents in the area, a month ago staged a massive demonstration against what they described as outrageous utility bills being charged them by the power distributor.

The residents gave a two week ultimatum to ECG to address their concerns but nothing has been done.

In a bid to disconnect the defaulting customers, the ECG workers were met with a strict resistance by the angry youth who threatened to attack them.

The ECG workers upon sensing danger took to their heels leaving behind their tools.
