Abetifi, (E/R), Oct. 11, GNA- The proposed Presbyterian University College (PUC), will commence lectures on November 24, this year, with 150 students to read Information Technology (IT) and Business Administration at the Abetifi Campus of the University in the Kwahu South District.
The Agogo and Akuapem Akropong campuses of the University, which would be used for medical and social sciences, would be opened in two years time.
Registrar of the University, Mr Kwadwo Amo-Osei, disclosed this when the Eastern Regional Minister, Dr Francis Osafo Mensah, visited the campus at Abetifi as part of his three-day visit to the Kwahu South District.
He said admission forms are being sold to qualified candidates including Senior Secondary School (SSS) graduates and Royal Society of Arts (RSA STAGE III) holders for interview and admission.
Mr Amo-Osei said the University will organise pre-tertiary studies for students with lower grades to enable them to improve upon their performances before being admitted.
He said adequate preparations have been made with the acquisition of residential accommodation for students and lecturers, lecture halls, a library and other offices for the effective take off of the University.
The Registrar said the Presbyterian Church and the University are collaborating to establish a radiotelephone system at the campus for its internet service since Ghana Telecom is yet to extend telephone facilities to the town.
The Kwahu South District Chief Executive, Mr Raymond Osafo-Gyan, said the District Assembly and the three Members of Parliament in the District have assisted the University with materials and funds totalling 40 million cedis.
The Regional Minister commended the Church for establishing the University in the rural area to train people for the nation’s human resource needs.
He assured the University authorities of the Government’s assistance and cooperation to enhance its performance.
