Women vow to boycott Nov. 7 polls over poor healthcare

Residents, particularly women of Azizakpe, Afliveh and Alorkpe in the Ada West District of the Greater Accra Region have threatened to boycott this year’s general elections if nothing is urgently done to alleviate the extreme difficulty they encounter when accessing healthcare.

According to the residents, despite news about several CHIPS compounds dotted around the country, they still live in the early stone age era where women in labour have to be carried onto canoes to cross the lake to Ada-Foah which mostly results in death of mothers and their unborn children due to long distances . Some even encounter ferocious storms and get drowned in the process.

That according to them is becoming too much as they claim politicians are taking them for granted. Speaking to Atinka News over the weekend, the women said they have resolved to boycott the election if the problem persists.

They also bemoaned how the Volta lake is taking over their communities due to what they call ‘inappropriate starting point of the Sea Defence Wall’ adding that the unfortunate development makes it difficult for school children in the area .
