Arise Journalists, Arise!

The Press Foundation (TPF) sees the consideration by the Ghana Police Service to close down all social media services during the November 7 Election as a thwarting effort to Journalists.

The 7th November Election is a National Programme in which majority of Ghanaian Nationals shall be taking part.

This group of persons, in no doubt include Journalists, Broadcasters and Reporters who would be honouring that national duty with a coverage.

A chunk of the media fraternity, however, depend on the social media for speedy relay of information to designated media houses.

It is,therefore, absurd just a few months to that national event to hear that the Police is considering the closure of such a public facility on the eve and during.

TPF is calling on all media outlets to rise against this consideration before it grows into a decision.

If the media sit on the fence without a puncture to this seeming closure, we will all wake up one day to be ordered to close all radio and television stations plus the print.

In any case, what’s stopping the Police from telling Ghanaians what has necessitated this consideration?

Can’t the Police engage stakeholders in a consultative forum for the way out?

Colleagues, it’s obvious that some masked persons are working seriously to gag the media.

Let’s arise!
