Wa Municipal Assembly begins census for Fulani herdsmen

Following concerns raised by members of the Wa Municipal Assembly on the negative activities of Fulani herdsmen in the area, the assembly has resolved to conduct a census on the herdsmen in the area.

This is to ensure that they are monitored in order to curb their activities.

This was disclosed to Ultimate news’ Musah Lansah by the Chief Executive of the Assembly Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha on the side lines of the 1st Ordinary Session of the house on Thursday.

According to him, members of the house in their previous sittings raised concerns on how the herdsmen were destroying the farms of farmers in their communities.

The census he said, will enable the assembly to keep tabs on the number of Fulanis in the area and also help in sanctioning them when the flout laws of the area.

He revealed that, about 30% of the census has already been done and that the assembly will continue until all Fulanis in the area are covered.

He told Musah Lansah that, the exercise is being done in collaboration with traditional rulers in the area.
