ECG overbilling must stop – Prez Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians that measures are been put in place to immediately resolve overbilling of electricity consumers and other challenges bedeviling the economy.

The president said he shares the frustration of the affected consumers, insisting that government is committed to resolving the impasse.

“We approved the steps taken by the Ministry of Power, and expect the taskforce, which comprises the Energy Commission, the ECG, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) and other stakeholders to submit its report and solution on June 03, 2016 for immediate implementation,” Mr Mahama said in a facebook post.

Mr. Mahama disclosed that Cabinet on Thursday approved the Inter-Agency Taskforce put together by the Ministry of Power to address the incessant complaints from consumers.

Electricity consumers have recently expressed unhappiness about what they termed as inflated bills and other anomalies in the billing system.

The situation has attracted a storm of criticism from a section of the public, including Members of Parliament and business owners.
