Rawlings destroyed Nkrumah’s ideals – Prof. Delle

National Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) Prof. Edmund Delle has accused former President Jerry John Rawlings of destroying Osagyefuo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s ideas and ideals.

‘What is happening is that he himself knows that he was part of the people who destroyed Nkrumah’s ideas and ideals, but you know that most of the people who claimed to be part of us, they all broke away and joined the National Democratic Congress (NDC). So it weakened the front of the Nkrumah’s group,’ he claimed.

He pointed out that majority of the people who believed in Nkrumah’s idealism later defected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party.

This, he believes weakened the front of the Nkrumah’s group when the former president came up with his party, saying the group lacks a formidable force.

Prof. Delle hinted that the Nkrumah’s group is currently broken into pieces.

‘As am talking to you now, we are broken up into pieces, you know you need to have a strong force to enforce these things and be able to lead and to lead and make sure that these ideals are preached everyday, and then go on,’ he bemoaned.

According to him, Former President Rawlings failed to implement the ideals of Nkrumah when he ruled the country over a decade.

‘If J.J has sympathies for Nkrumah, he had the opportunity to enforce all of these ideals, so the criticism doesn’t come to us alone, it also goes to him as well, because he was the head of state for a very long time. He should have implemented these ideas and ideals, so we all take part of the blame, that is what happens when you have a leader who is above everybody,’ he asserted.

He told Ultimate breakfast show host, Lantam Papanko that they accept the former president’s comments in good faith and that Nkrumah’s idealism will be projected.

‘It’s a criticism but I don’t think one should take it in bad faith, it’s actually a challenge to the Nkrumahists, Osagyefuo lived a selfless life, he insisted that we should be brothers and sisters,…he insisted that we should do away with tribalism… We should think of ourselves as Ghanaians but not as an Asante man or Dagaati man, and that we should think of Africa and not Ghana alone,’ he stated.

The former President Rawlings blasted Nkrumahists for failing to project Nkrumah’s ideals when he addressed a group of Cuban professionals at his residence.
