Flagstaff House is not for rent – Nkansah tells Nana Addo

Comments by presidential candidate of the largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that cost of electricity in Ghana is more expensive than rent; under the Mahama administration has been described by Solomon Nkansah, Deputy Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as ‘crocodile tears’.

The vociferous politician mocking Nana Addo’s statement said, he do not know where Nana Addo rents for him to say that electricity bills under President Mahama is more expensive than rent in Ghana.

Nana Addo Inaugurating the South African branch of the NPP on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Illovo in Johannesburg, said that “can you believe that today in Ghana, for the ordinary Ghanaian, the cost of electricity is more than the cost of their rent? So forget even dumsor, it is now yensor, because you can’t afford to pay. That is where we are.”

Again, he reiterated the same sentiments in a statement calling for reduction in electricity bills after the Public Regulatory Commission (PURC) ordered the Electricity of Ghana (ECG) to suspend the billing of consumers over anomalies in their system about two days ago.

PURC in a statement said the directive was necessitated following incessant by complaints by customers alleging over-billing on the part of the ECG.

The PURC explained that through its investigation into the allegations, it came out that there was an anomaly in the initial implementation of the new billing software. Following this directive, Nana Addo has called for reduction in electricity bills with immediate effect due to the burden on consumers.

But commenting on the comments by Nana Addo, Solomon Nkansah said the presidential candidate of the NPP is only shedding crocodile tears over what government was already taking steps to resolve.

According to him, government has already taken steps to ensure that consumers are not over charged hence the statement from the opposition NPP is much i do about nothing and ”if Nana Addo wants ‘money’ from Ghanaians to rent the Flagstaff House, then I will tell him that the place is not for rent,” he said mocking the former Attorney General.
