Constituency party offices needless – Odike

Flagbearer of the United Progressive Party (UPP) Akwasi Addai Odike has stated that it is needless for political parties to have physical structures as constituency party offices in contemporary times.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has served notice it will ban political parties which have failed to meet the requirements of the political party’s law including provision of party offices at the national, regional and constituency levels.

But Akwasi Addai Odike told Lantam Papanko on the Ultimate Breakfast Show that he is not perturbed by the threat from the EC.

“Many of the political parties including the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) do not have functional constituency offices themselves. They have painted gates of structures that are not functional and claim them as their offices”, he alleged

According to him, political party meetings could be held online or via social media platforms in modern times wondering why the EC is bent on enforcing a law that is in variance with modern trends.

“We can hold meetings online and other platforms including Social media. In contemporary business environment, it’s needless having physical offices. When the UPP wants to hold meetings, we rent conference rooms in hotels, do it at our National Headquarters in Accra and when in the regions at our regional offices”, he disclosed.
