GES establishes EMIS in all districts

Kumasi, Oct 8, GNA- The Ghana Education Service (GES) has established an Information Communication and Technology (ICT) based Education Monitoring Information Systems (EMIS) in all the districts to ensure an efficient management of education at all levels.

The project is designed to ensure effective collection, management, processing and dissemination of information on education in the country.

Mr Kofi Britwum, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, said this at a day’s seminar on ICT for some Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) in Ashanti.

The seminar, which was organised by the Ghana Information Network for Knowledge Sharing (GINKS) and the Global Teenager Project (GTP) Ghana, aimed at increasing the awareness levels of students and teachers on the potential that ICT holds in improving teaching and learning in schools.

Mr Britwum said Geographical Information System (GIS), a component of ICT, has also been employed in EMIS sites throughout the country to manage data on the number of schools from the pre-school level to tertiary levels, giving information on teachers, structures, students and their needs.

Mr Kofi Mangesi, Co-ordinator of GINKS, said the organisation believes that the future of Ghana’s development is firmly rooted in the use of ICT.

He said the potential for using ICT to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the classroom is enormous especially in Ghana. Mr Ebenezer Malcom, Country Co-ordinator of GTP, said 20 schools are participating in the project.
