UPSA holds demo against siting of filling station

Students of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), Madina, Accra, have demonstrated against the construction of a filling station near the university.

Some of the placards read include “UPSA in danger”, “No Circle Part 2”, “Think about our lives”, “Humanity first”, and “professionals are in danger”.

The university is situated between the Christ Embassy Church and the construction site.

In an interview with GNA Wilson Delali Agyeman, President of the Department of Accounting Students Association said the university authorities have made efforts to prevent a lurking disaster.

He said, the student body had shown their support to the authorities by embarking on the demonstration to express their concern.

Mr Agyeman cited recent tragedies that plagued the country such as the June 3 disaster in 2015 at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Accra

These sad events were partly due to negligence of some people, institutional failure and unexplainable conditions, he noted.

He called on President John Dramani Mahama, Member of Parliament, Environmental Protection Agency, National Petroleum Commission and Municipal Chief Executive, to act as soon as possible on matter.
