Let’s fight poverty together – Haurna Iddrisu

The Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu has appealed to the people of the Northern Region to stop the political violence, chieftaincy disputes and land litigation in the region and rally together to fight poverty.

He, however, commended the people for cooperating with security personnel to reduce crime in the region.

He made this known during a ceremony to mark this year’s West Africa Security Services Association (WASSA) celebration in Tamale in the Northern Region.

The Minister commended the Northern Regional Police Command for ensuring peace in the region and the establishment of a political investigation department in the region.

He charged the police command to continue to work hard to safeguard the peace and stability of the country during and after the November 7 elections.

“The police is responsible for maintaining law and order and we should maintain that order even when we are going into the general elections.”

He assured the Regional Prisons Command that their request for the review of their pension scheme is receiving the needed consideration from the President, John Mahama.

The Minister indicated that the government will sooner than later announce a unified pension scheme for all security agencies in Ghana in order to ensure and guarantee a continuous income for personnel after their service.

According to him, government is working towards a borderless phenomenon stressing that sometimes, time is overspent at the borders when vehicles and motorbikes are asked to park for a routine check, a situation that has caused caused a number of accidents and urged the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) commander to look into the issue.
