The Founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP), Akua Donkor says her GFP party cannot be shoved as a smaller party in the system because the party has what it takes to contest the 2016 elections as a fully-fledged political party.
The Electoral Commission has warned it will withdraw certificates of political parties without district offices by the end of May.
According to the EC laws governing the registration of political parties in Ghana, all parties must have district offices in order to reflect their regional representation and balance.
But Akua Donkor reacting to this said she’s no knowledge of what the law states now for them to get the so-called party offices countrywide.
She wondered what has changed the stance of the EC in relation to the visibility of the various parties across the country when she was made to understand from the onset that the key aspect of the law to guarantee her certification was for her to get representatives across-board.
For her, the reps she’s managed to get onboard are operating effectively, and hence this must fulfill the regulation the EC is talking about.
“I’m not aware of any law; they shouldn’t be telling me this now. what I know is that the EC told me to go around the country and get representatives countrywide who’ll, in turn, set up the party and operate it with executives in those areas. The fact that I have not furnished those offices doesn’t mean I’m not operating. I have reps in most parts of the country just as Kwadwo Afari Gyan asked me to do . I’ve toured the whole country including Tumu, Nkwanta North, and Afram Plains to get officers who are now representing the GFP everywhere”
