Leaders must show they care for people – Bishop

The Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, the Right Reverend Christopher Nyarko Andam, has called for leaders to be selfless and to show that they care for the needs, concerns and feelings of the people they are leading.

Leadership should not be about personal comfort or convenience but the common good.

He was delivering the sermon at a service held to inaugurate the Ahodwo Circuit of the Church at Ahodwo, an upscale district in Kumasi.

This brings to 39, the number of circuits in the diocese.

The Rt. Rev Nyarko Adam said the expectation was that political and religious leaders would focus on finding answers to the economic difficulties facing the population, to make things better.

They should serve as “good shepherds – protect their sheep from evil and provide them with the needed guidance to help them to live in peace”.

He denounced the strange bible teachings and confused messages by some of his colleague pastors just for self-gratification and said that must end.

He said the clergy must teach and help people to make a distinction between what “is right and wrong, what is good and bad”.

The shameful deception of innocent and unsuspecting people through false prophecies, he noted, was not doing any good the image of church.

The Very Rev Nancy Broni-Appiah, the pioneer Circuit Superintendent, was inducted into office.

There are nine societies in the new circuit, which was carved out of the Amakom and New Tafo circuits.
