Dampare transfer good for police training – Analyst

Security Analyst David Agbey has backed the move to transfer former Accra Regional Commander COP Dr George Dampare to the Police Staff College at Winneba.

Six months ahead of the country’s presidential and parliamentary elections, IGP John Kudalor has transferred over 60 top police officers. As part of the reshuffle, COP Dampare’s deputy, ACP Timothy Bonga Yoosa, becomes the new regional commander.

Critics have described COP Dampare’s transfer as a surprise. However, Mr Agbey, speaking to Class News, said COP Dampare’s educational background and expertise will enable him excel at his new post.

“I think that he is an academia. Somebody with a PhD, and, so, they expect him to go there and empower the people and to restructure the police at Winneba, and, so, I think that he is going to contribute significantly to police administration as far as their training in school is concern,” he stated.

“Somebody could say that he was Director of Finance at police headquarters, he was pushed to become the Regional commander and now maybe based on the assessment that the IGP and other comrades have actually done, they think that he is good when it comes to academics, trying to put in systems and structures there, so that they will be able to revamp Winneba police training.

“One way or the other, I think that he is going to contribute to knowledge as far as his level of knowledge and intelligence is concern,” he added.
