Credit Union holds annul general meeting

Okumaning-Kade (E/R), Oct. 6, GNA – The University of Ghana Agricultural Research Station Workers Credit Union at Okumaning-Kade in the Kwaebibirem District at the weekend held its annual general meeting. The Union, with membership of 165, this year, had a fixed asset of 546,592,849.99 cedis as against 433,420,824.53 for last year. Out of this year’s assets, 269,450,000.00 was given out as loans to the members as compared to 212,697,000.00 cedis which was given as loans last year. The savings of the members this year was 426,145,877.00 cedis, while that of the previous year was 303,645,635.00.

A number of the members were honoured for their dedication, devotion and hard work, which culminated in the success of the union this year, the following people were rewarded.

They were Mr. Andrews Ampomah, out-going chairman, Mr. Gustav Anibrika, ex-cashier, Mr John Amoah, secretary. The rest were Mr James Appiah, Mr Jacob Mensah, Miss Lydia Larbi, Miss Hannah Akyeampong and Mr Augustine Bentil.

Presenting the awards to the members, Dr Godfried Kwaku Hotsonyame, current chairman of the union, who is a senior Research Officer of the station, commended the executives for their long service and hard work. Dr Hotsonyame advised the members to inculcate the spirit of saving greater part of their incomes to enable them to obtain huge sums of money as loans for their development projects. He also advised them to support all on-going projects of the union.

Mr Albert Yaw Ankomah, Zonal Manager of the union advised the members to consider “the ability to pay” policy whereby members loans are given upon their ability to pay back and not how much they have contributed. He said that would enable the union to raise its fixed assets or capital in the years ahead.

Mr Ankomah appealed to the members to raise the amount of honorarium that is given to its executives in the subsequent years to entice future executives to give of their best.

This, he said, would encourage the people to work hard for the socio-economic advancement of the union.

Mr Andrews Ampomah, the out-going Chairman of the union, on behalf of the people thanked the members for honouring the executives.
