Accra Oct.6, GNA- Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Minister of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital City on Monday described Ghana as Africa’s Tourism host.
“Touring the country gives a delight everyday,” he said, when he hosted a cocktail in Accra to reward stakeholders and sponsors of the World Tourism Day, which fell on September 27, 2003.
He said it has become imperative for government and the private sector to work in partnership to consolidate the gains made in the sector. “On our part as government, we will do well to sell the country and its tourism sites to potential tourists, but it would take the private sector to do the actual business of tourism,” he said.
Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey said to this end, the Ministry is liaising with the private sector to boost tourism in the Ghana, adding, “I will speak to my colleague ministers to encourage a tourism drive within their various sectors, with the view to creating an all-round enabling environment for stakeholders in the tourism sector.”
He mentioned that this year, the Hohoe district made more money from tourism than any other sector.
The Minister presented certificates of honour to the sponsors and the planning committee members for the excellent work done on the World Tourism Day.
Ms Eva Lokko, Director of GBC thanked the Ministry on behalf of the sponsors and also noted that tourism is very important because it unites the world,
“Although different countries offer their unique tourists attraction, there is the same feeling and same sensitivity to things when one tours other countries”.
She said tourism teaches a lot about the country and it earn money for the country.
