A Tarkwa Circuit court has fined three persons GHC480.00 each, for siphoning 32 gallons of diesel belonging to Aboso Goldfields Limited (AGL), Damang Mine.
The convicts are Julius Oppong, 28, a security officer with the AGL, Abullia Wilson, 20, a driver and Adamu Mohammed, 30, a miner.
They pleaded guilty to stealing, and in default, each would serve 12 months imprisonment.
Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah, told the court, presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew, that the complainant, Albert Wommah, a security officer at the AGL, whilst the convicts resided at Huni/Valley.
He said on May 2, at about 0130 hours, the complainant and his colleagues were on routine patrol at the AGL mining site at Ampoyo, near Huni/Valley, when they chanced on Wilson and Mohammed holding four containers of diesel, equivalent to 32 gallons worth GHC480.00.
According to the prosecutor, when the complainant enquired from them where they had the diesel from, they said it was Oppong who called them on phone and directed them to the mining site to siphon it.
Therefore, Wilson and Mohammed led the security personnel to the AGL Water Pumping Plant at the Ampoyo site where Oppong was detailed to guard.
They were arrested and handed over to the Police to assist them in their investigations.
