Accra, Oct. 2, GNA- The Ghana Information Technology Aid Group (GHAITAG) a non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in Denmark on Thursday gave out 270 computers and accessories valued at 38,000 dollars to five schools in the country. The beneficiary schools which took 50 computers each included: Accra Academy, Labone Secondary School, Ebenezer Secondary School, Ridge Church Junior Secondary, all in Accra and Adu Gyamfi Secondary School in the Ashanti Region. Presenting the items Dr Robert Yartey Mensa-Annan, Executive Director of GHAITAG, said the move was to equip schools and other institutions with computer facilities to spread the benefit of information technology.
He said schools selected met requirements such as availability of computer laboratory, demonstration of the desire to advance in ICT, follow GES guidelines on ICT, adequate storage facility and ready to cooperate with GHAITAG. Dr Mensa-Annan noted that GHAITAG intended to establish repair workshop to train technicians to repair the computers and accessories, especially those given out to institutions. He said GHAITAG target was to select five schools wire them up to emerge the best in ICT education in Africa, saying “we will provide them with the infrastructure and ensure that they become one of best in the ICT world.
Dr Mensa-Annan said they envisaged extending the donation facility to 1,000 to 20 schools each year with each school receiving 50 computers. Mr Isaac Nsowah, Headmaster of Adu Gyamfie Secondary school thanked the GHAITAG on behalf of the beneficiary schools and said the computers would largely contribute to improve the ICT programme in the school. 02 Oct. 03
