Shata Wale ‘Says No’ To Prez Mahama & NDC

Shatta Wale, CEO of Shatta Movement says he will not climb the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) political platform to campaign for His Excellency, President John Dramani Mahama as the country gets ready for this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections come November 7th.

Shatta Wale, know as Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jnr., in private life is rumoured to be a sympathizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) due to his dad’s (Nii Armah Mensah Snr.) previous key role positions within the NDC party but in an interview with Edmund Agbeko of The Ghanaian News in Canada, Chris Koney, who acts at the Public Relations Officer for the 2014 Ghana Music Awards Artist of the Year has debunked any assertion that, the self acclaimed African Dance Hall King will join the likes of John Dumelo and Braimah Isaac Kamoko popularly known as Bukom Banku to campaign for the President.

When asked whether Shatta Wale, who arguably has the biggest followers in Ghana music currently, would join his dad to campaign for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) prior to the November elections, Chris Koney responded in the negative. He told The Ghanaian News: “Shatta (Wale) is not getting to politics. As a Ghanaian artiste, he will continue to preach about peace and urge the younger ones to desist from electoral violence in order to help build a stronger Ghana because it’s important we realise that, peace cannot be achieved through violence but only attained through understanding.”

Chris Koney also took the opportunity to talk about the relationship between Shatta Wale and Samini as the two heavy-weight musicians had been at loggerheads over who should be crowned the ‘Dancehall King’ in Ghana. He stated: “There is no bad blood between Wale and Samini. He [Wale] regards him [Samini] as an industry person because Samini is his fellow musician. However, they are not friends. Whatever happened earlier is part of dancehall and in this genre of music, you need to get your consistency [right], so it is what it is!”
