CPP in dilemma over limited registration extension

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) said it does not object to an extension of the just ended Limited Voter’s registration exercise once the EC has the funds to execute it.

However, the Nkrumahist party said if an extension will be a great deal to the Electoral Commission in terms of funding, then there is no need to push.

“The CPP does not have any objections to an extension,” the national chairman and leader of the CPP Prof. Edmund Delle told a section of the media.

“Indeed, we the CPP are of the view that all persons who have turned 18 years should be registered and not disenfranchised in the upcoming elections.”

He added: “Whatsoever be the case, does the EC have the necessary funds to extend? If the answer is yes, then why not? Let there be an immediate extension without any hesitation but if the answer is no, then we as a nation need to rethink about the entire extension exercise again.”

The 10-day registration exercise provided the opportunity for first time voters to get their names captured on the electoral roll ahead of the 2016 elections.

Ghana goes to the polls on November 7 to elect a president and members of parliament. President John Mahama of the NDC who is seeking reelection will again face off with his main contender Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party and some other candidates.
