Akandoh’s ‘thugs’ beat me mercilessly – Martha Kwayie

Madam Martha Kwayie Manu, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Juaboso constituency has alleged she is still nursing wounds from the beatings she received from ‘thugs’ she claimed were sent by Hon. Kwabena Akandoh, NDC MP for Juaboso and Deputy Minister for Forestry and Natural Resources.

Madam Martha Manu was reportedly assaulted by some macho men who she alleged were ordered by the MP after her monitoring team resisted attempts by him [Hon. Akandoh] to get some suspected foreigners from Ivory Coast to register in the ongoing limited registration exercise.

She had alleged earlier that, the honourable Deputy Minister together with his father bussed some foreigners to the registration centres to get them to registered.

Speaking to Rainbow Radio 87.FM, she said, she was severely beaten because she raised a protest against the registration of the suspected foreigners in the full glare of the police officer who was on board the Deputy Minister’s vehicle.

However, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh reacting to the claims said, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate brought the ordeal upon herself because she went round slapping persons she suspected to be foreigners instead of picking a challenge form.

He denied the claims saying that he will never order ‘thugs’ to assault a woman since he respects women and also have sisters just like Madam Manu.

Meanwhile, a recorded tape purported to be the voice Madam Martha Kwayie Manu saying that, picking a challenge form is much I do about nothing hence she has launched what she termed “asumbo form” literally meaning a slap form.

In the said recording, the NPP parliamentary candidate reportedly said, she herself assaulted one person who confessed being a foreigner.

This, Hon. Akandoh noted was unfortunate and an action that led to her attack; so she should not blame anyone for her ordeal.

He chided members of the NPP to allow the process to go through smoothly without their unnecessary tension and violence and attacks on observers.
