Wontumi’s arrest was diversionary – Lawyer

Andy Appiah Kubi, one of the lawyers for New Patriotic Party Ashanti Regional chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako alias ‘Wontumi’ believes some persons in higher authority are behind his arrest .

Speaking on Atinka FM AM Drive Wednesday, he said the police initially failed to grant Wontumi bail even though he personally reported himself to the police and suggested that the action was due to pressure from above .

Lawyer Appiah Kubi argued the case in question is a minor offence and that , the NPP chair should have been granted bail on Tuesday adding that the Constitution even backs his stance.”This is clear to me that somebody is behind the action because Wontumi is working hard for the success of NPP,” he said.

Lawyer Appiah Kubi further alleged that Wontumi’s arrest was a diversionary tactics, adding that some people want to divert attention from the ongoing registration exercise in order to manipulate it .

He charged all NPP members to arise and fight for their chairman and the party as a whole. Meanwhile, chairman Wontumi has been granted bail following the decision by the Manyhia North MP, Collins Amankwah to drop assault charges against his chairman.
