Information gathered by rainbowradioonline.com indicates Immigration Officers in the Western region have impounded two mini buses carrying about 60 persons suspected to have been bussed from Ivory Coast to come and register in Ghana in the ongoing limited registration exercise.
The two buses with registration numbers GS 3556-10 Hyundai and GT 6972 N Nissan were impounded at the Jato border by the Immigration Officers this evening.
Confirming the incident to rainbowradioonline.com, Mr. Seth Adu Agyei who works with Seth Agyei and Associates, a research firm said, the buses attempted using the Sefwi Akatiso route but were forced to use the border to erase any suspicion.
According to him, Member of Parliament (MP) for Juaboso, Hon. Akandoh Kwabena Mintah is responsible for busing the passengers into the country.
He revealed, father of the legislator and the NDC communications director, one Alex were on board the bus at the time it was impounded by the Immigration Officers.
He added the officers have so far screened the passengers and released about 49 of them who are said to be Ghanaians with 11 currently in their custody because they are suspected not be Ghanaians.
Mr. Seth Adu Agyei revealed further, the persons screened are been accommodated by Hon. Akandoh
“We had information that Hon. Akandoh was arranging to bus some persons into the country from Ivory Coast to register in the ongoing limited registration exercise. We monitored them until they were arrested this evening at the Jato border.
Hon. Akandoh’s father and one communications officer, Alex were on board the bus. The chairman of the NDC is at the border together with some macho men who they have ordered to accompany the persons screened to Hon. Akandoh’s house.
We told the Immigration officers to hand over the arrested persons to the police but they said we cannot teach them what to do.
After screening the about 60 passengers, 49 were left off the hook while 11 of them are still in their custody because the officers doubt if they are Ghanaians.”
