Workers want their reward on earth – Union Chairman

The acting Eastern Regional Chairman of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Mr. Augustine Michael Owusu, has called for the government to do more to improve on the conditions of service for workers.

Addressing a ‘May Day’ celebration in Koforidua, he said the government should give to them their due.

He noted despite the continued hard work and vital contribution to the socio-economic progress of the nation, workers were not getting the reward they deserved.

“Election 2016, the role of workers in securing a peaceful elections towards national development’’ was the theme for this year’s event.

Mr. Owusu used the occasion to encourage all qualified voters, who had not registered to take advantage of the limited voters’ registration exercise to get their names on the electoral roll.

He also asked the people to make the right judgement on voting day by electing selfless and caring leaders.

Ms. Mavis Ama Frimpong, the Regional Minister, saluted workers for the significant contribution to the nation’s growth.

She advised all to be mindful of their utterances and avoid doing anything that could create confusion.

Mr. Patrick Adjetey Adjei of the Centre for National Culture, Suhum, who was adjudged the overall best worker in the region, was rewarded with a table-top fridge and citation.
