Angry residents to name choked drain after Kumasi Mayor

Angry residents of Mbrom a suburb of Kumasi opposite Freedom Fm are threatening to name a choked drain after the Mayor of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu.

This according to them, it has become necessary to shame the manager of the Garden City this way following the failure by the city authorities of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly led by him to remedy the situation despite several complaints.

“Giant billboards of Kojo Bonsu in beautiful Kente Cloth were mounted in Kejetia and other strategic places even before he became mayor. But have a look at the pond of dirty water here, we will name the pond of water after him, I mean Kojo Bonsu Pond”, they threatened.

According to the residents even before he became the mayor money was spent on the erection of giant billboards with his portrait welcoming him into the region but upon assumption of office, he seems indifferent to their plight.

They complain that the foul stench emanating from a drainage spillage at Mbrom Sewage from households and shops in the area can no longer flow freely through the underground covet causing the dirty ankle length water to take over half of the main stretch of road at race course.

The traders, who sit by the street to sell, claim they have been frequenting the hospital a lot lately indicating it could be as a result of the pungent smell from the choked gutter.

According to them, the KMA has been desilting the drainage but it hasn’t yielded any positive results the need for a new approach in dealing with the situation.

The assembly man for the area Alexander Kesse claims several Request from him to solicit for help from the KMA has proven futile.

In an interview with Ultimate News, he said he would raise funds to help remedy the situation.

“I have been to the waste management department of KMA, but the director told me his department is not in charge. He said is the duty of the Urban Road department but they also told me I should go back to the waste management department, None of them wants to take responsibility for that.” Iam very frustrated about the situation, I am trying to raise funds to work on the drain”, he disclosed.
