Ningos Hold Forum

Old Ningo (Greater Accra), 5 Nov., Dangme West district assembly and the Ningo area council yesterday organised a forum for the chiefs and people of Great Ningo traditional area to educate them on current government policies. The forum was attended by chiefs, opinion leaders, Mr Enoch T. Mensah, Minister of Youth and Sports and the Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram constituency and Mr Seth Kpabitey, the district chief executive. Mr E.T. Narh, presiding member of the Ningo area council said the forum is necessary to build the required commitment, consensus and unity to keep government machinery running smoothly. He said due to lack of understanding, the assembly has encountered numerous problems including poor revenue generation, because people do not rpt not see the need to pay taxes and yet expect the assembly to carry out projects for them. Others are lack of revenue collectors because of low commissions paid by the assembly and power struggle between the chiefs and the area council as to who should collect which taxes.
